Coaxum Enterprises, Inc. Opens First McDonald's Restaurant on the Eastbank of Orleans Parish Post-Katrina
McDonald's is Back in New Orleans and Proud to be Part of Our Communities
Please congratulate Owner/Operator Henry Coaxum for his reopening of the St. Charles Avenue restaurant February 24, just in time for the 150th Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans. This is the first McDonald's restaurant to reopen on the Eastbank of the city of New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina last year. The restaurant is located at 3321 St. Charles Avenue (intersection of Louisiana Avenue), Uptown New Orleans.
What is incredible about this story, is how Henry and his wife Karen leveraged the McDonald's Great Southern Regional Co-Op's Hiring Day (February 7) to build relationships in the community and tell potential employees about the opportunities that exist at McDonald's. Visiting sites such as the Jewish Community Center, universities and high schools in the area and local Louisiana Department of Labor Job Service Centers, the Coaxums got out the word that McDonald's was coming back better than ever and had plenty of opportunities for those willing to grow.
This grassroots effort -- along with the support of banners and TV commercials promoting the Hiring Day -- brought in over 70 applicants on the lot of the restaurant (as construction efforts were ongoing inside) despite cold, windy weather. Applicants were interviewed on the spot and the results were phenomenal with 64 crew members being hired in just that one day!
